EET 2.0 and company IT: a checklist for businesses with a venue in Prague 1
Published 18 October 2026 | Reading time: 6 minutes
A new system of sales recording starts on 1 January 2027. If you take payments in a venue, at a reception desk, in a showroom or in a cafe, this is not only an accounting matter. A cash register is in effect a small computer connected to the internet, and somebody has to look after it. Here is a sober checklist from the point of view of company IT.
What changes and by when
The Act on Sales Recording (known as EET 2.0) was promulgated on 15 October 2026. These are the dates to put in your calendar (source: eet.gov.cz, the website of the Czech Financial Administration):
- 1 Nov 2026: EET 2.0 launches in the MOJE daně tax portal, including certificate generation (DIS+).
- 1 Dec 2026: the free web application MOJE eet for small businesses goes live. A smartphone, tablet or computer is enough.
- 10 Jan 2027: the last day to opt into the EET OFF regime for 2027 (it applies only to selected sole traders in the first band of the flat-rate tax regime).
- 1 Jan 2027: live operation begins.
What is recorded are sales taken in person or on the premises: cash, card or QR payments. It does not matter whether you are a VAT payer. An ordinary invoice paid by bank transfer and an e-shop with an online payment gateway are not recorded. You do not have to buy a new till: you can keep your existing point-of-sale system once the supplier updates it, or use the MOJE eet application. A receipt is no longer required for EET purposes, and only minimal data is recorded, such as date, time and total amount.
1. Who obtains the certificate and where it is stored
The certificate is generated in the MOJE daně portal (DIS+). From an IT point of view it is a credential on which the sending of sales depends, and keys should not sit in an email or on the desktop of one laptop. We recommend:
- Name one responsible person (and a deputy) to obtain the certificate. Do it right after 1 November, not in December.
- Store the certificate in one controlled place with restricted access and a backup, not in a shared folder open to everyone.
- Decide who manages the certificate and who will renew it if needed. The exact conditions are on eet.gov.cz.
2. Updating the point-of-sale system
If you use an existing point-of-sale system, ask its supplier when the EET 2.0 update will be released and who will install it. Also ask how the certificate is loaded into the till. The update date decides whether you can test everything before 1 January. A till running on an outdated operating system is better dealt with now than with a queue of customers at the door.
3. The till belongs in its own separate network
The till takes payments and sends data to the state, so it has no place on the same network as guests, visitors and private phones. At receptions and cafes we often see a single Wi-Fi for everyone. The right setup is:
- the till, the payment terminal and the printer on their own separate network (VLAN),
- guests on a separate network that cannot see anything else,
- staff computers kept apart from the till,
- the till preferably on a cable, not on Wi-Fi.
More on separating networks is in our articles Company Wi-Fi: How to set it up correctly and securely and Management of a company network.
4. Stable internet and what to do in an outage
Recording is online: data is sent to the Financial Administration at the moment of the sale. If the connection drops, sales are sent once it is restored, at the latest within 48 hours of the sale (according to eet.gov.cz, section Errors and their solutions). Most tills have an automatic procedure for an outage and send unsent sales by themselves when the connection returns.
Our practical conclusion, not a legal requirement, is this: one short outage changes nothing, but repeated or longer outages at a venue are a risk. The MOJE eet application runs in a browser, so it needs the internet too. It therefore makes sense to:
- check how the premises are connected and whether the router and switch are decent equipment with monitoring,
- have a backup connection, for example a second line or a mobile backup, and test that the network really switches over,
- give staff a simple procedure: what to do when the till reports a connection error and whom to call,
- after an outage, check that all sales were sent.
5. Backups
Till data, till settings and the certificate belong in your backups just like your accounts. Find out exactly what the point-of-sale system stores and where, and have a restore demonstrated, not only the backup. The principles are in Data backup for businesses: the 3-2-1 strategy.
6. Who has access
- List who may use the till, the MOJE daně portal and the network administration.
- Give everyone a personal account, not a shared password on a note by the till.
- Revoke access immediately when an employee leaves.
- The administrator password and the certificate must not be known to everyone who operates the till.
What we can do for you
We do not handle the point-of-sale system or the tax portal; that stays with the till supplier and with you. We take care of the IT around it: the company network including Wi-Fi and separating the till from guests, switches and cabling, monitoring and backups, and management of computers and access rights. For businesses in Prague 1 we are right around the corner.
Quick plan: what to do and when
- Now: name a responsible person and ask your till supplier for the update date.
- By 1 Dec 2026: move the till onto its own network, verify connectivity and backups, and split up access rights.
- In December: test the till with the new certificate and try what happens when the internet is unplugged.
- 10 Jan 2027: if EET OFF applies to you, do not miss the deadline to opt in.
Complete and up-to-date information, including the exceptions from recording, is always on eet.gov.cz. This article is a practical IT view, not legal advice.
